The “Pirates” of Stapar
Local tradition remembers Stapar’s ancestors as people who intercepted imperial boats on the Danube.

The founding story of Stapar does not begin with peaceful settlement. In later memory, inhabitants of Bokčenović and Vranješevo become “pirates” who attacked boats and evaded authority. Their resettlement can be followed historically, while the pirate layer remains a local interpretation of resistance, punishment and a forced new beginning.
