A local historical account says the first inhabitants lived for a time in dugouts before raising modest houses of wattle and mud. It is not supernatural, but it sharply overturns the image of a lowland village: the settlement begins below ground level. Further work should test whether family traditions or microtoponyms survive around those earliest dwellings.
